Penguin Random House | Skermslim

A dream project!! I had the honour of working with Estée Cockcroft, the founder and all-round powerhouse behind Screen Smarts, on her new book titled ‘Skermslim’, published by Penguin Random House South Africa (OUT in June 2026!)

It’s a much-needed guide for young kids (and parents) navigating the fast-paced and all-consuming digital realm, written in a fun, quirky tone, full of real-world wisdom! And so, she encouraged me to give the illustrations the same sort of feel - witty, strange and a little bit disrupting – reflecting the space we find ourselves in with the digital realm, heavy and all-present.

Along with the cover design, these smaller illustrations act as fun, attention-grabbing doodles, intended to spark conversation and visually represent the concepts discussed in the book.

Because seeing a visual depiction of the repulsive ‘harige-rug-tuna-vis-man’ might just make you a bit more weary, and a bit more safe.
